Hilltop Farms at 201 Pulaski Blvd. in Bellingham opened on June 15th, 1955 as a way for brothers Milton and William Gurwitz to sell dairy products from their farm in Blackstone Massachusetts directly to the public. At that time, milk was delivered in quarts door to door by the neighborhood milkman. The Gurwitz brothers did something that no one else in the area had ever tried; they bought a used car lot, built and opened a store where they began to sell their milk in both half gallon and full gallon containers.

As time went on, other dairy products were added as well as ice cream, produce, canned goods, bread, soda and snacks. This was the start of the modern day convenience store that we all know today. Hilltop Farms expanded to eight stores by 1966. In 1971 the stores were divided and the original Bellingham location was turned over to Milton’s son Gary.

In 1991 Gary turned over operations to his son Steve. In 1993 Steve bought the property to the left of the store which has given Hilltop Farms the vast parking lot that it’s customers enjoy today. In 1996 Steve acquired an alcohol license allowing Hilltop Farms to expand it’s offerings to include beer and wine. A year later in 1997 we became a licensee for the famous Del’s Lemonade brand.

We also decided to offer a wide array of money services to our customers; so in 1998 we started selling Money Orders.  In 2000 we offered Prepaid Wireless minutes for our customers with cell phones. We became a Money Gram agent in 2007 which allows Hilltop Farms to process utility payments and handle both domestic and international wire transfers.

As part of our ongoing commitment to the environment a Redemption center for cans and bottles was added in 2008. Our smoke shop area featuring the ever expanding “Roll your own” category was added in 2009.

Over the years, Hilltop Farms has gained the reputation of being one of Massachusetts’ luckiest lottery stores paying out nearly 3 million dollars to our customers in 2010!
